How to Play Darts Series: How to Play Darts

Hi, this is Rich Buccola here in Astoria Queens at the world's famous Doyle's Corner and, on behalf of Expert Village, today we're going to show you how to throw some darts. Alright, every sport that I've ever played or ever taught how to play always involved proper balance in your stance. The biggest mistake, what I want to try to talk about in this clip is proper form. The biggest mistake
most dart players make is they tend to lean. This is leaning. Your toe line is here, if you can just get my toe line you see there's a mark and dart players tend to put all of their weight on this one foot, and they lean. I believe that this is robbing a dart player, especially new ones, of, when you lean, you're robbing yourself of so many things. First of all, if you're older it's going to hurt your back. It's going to hurt you if you have to play a long game because eventually your foot's going to start hurting, or ankles starting to hurt. When you play darts, you actually want to have a good center balance. You want to have all your weight distributed evenly on both feet. When you throw the dart, you're not trying to throw it like a baseball. You're trying to float the dart, so that your hand, you hold it with your three fingers, even four fingers. You want the dart to float upwards. When you actually lean, you are throwing against gravity because the dart has to go up against gravity instead of falling with it, it's going against it. So, leaning is a big big no no, as far as learning to play darts. Have your weight centered, breathe, be comfortable, and have the dart float into the spot. So, it actually arches going in. A nice simple toss.
